  • TonCut Engine - 2.2.12.3298
    11/2/26 9:00:32 AM

We are pleased to inform you about the new TonCut Engine version. The new version includes the following changes:

    Before you upgrade

    • JSON format version: now 4 for input, config and output files. Files with version 3 are still read as before. Clients that check the output for 3 must accept 4.
    • Stock priority: now a number from 0 to 100; higher means used first. "low" (= 0) and "normal" (= 10, the default) still work. Out-of-range values are rejected. Piece priorities are unchanged.
    • Inputs now rejected with an error:
      • stock defects with the linear 1D cutting algorithm, which does not support them;
      • stock holes (on stock items or reusable waste): no public algorithm supports them yet;
      • a positive cutExcess with the new guillotine or strip cutting algorithms;
      • invalid piece weights.
    • Rectangular stock: plain sheets still use the established original algorithm. Sheets with defects or cut/edge clearances switch to the new guillotine cutting algorithm automatically. Forcing the original algorithm on such a sheet is rejected.
    • gain: now calculated as income − cost.
    • Service logs: moved to the service account's roaming AppData under Codeton\TonCutEngine. For the default account that is C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Codeton\TonCutEngine.
    • Console progress: lines now end with a carriage return instead of starting with one.

    New algorithms

    • Guillotine cutting: a new algorithm, with defect support.
    • Strip cutting: a specialized algorithm, with defect support.

    New input options

    • Stock price: a stock item can have its own price per m², which overrides the material price.
    • Device: minCutDistance (formerly minCutWidth), minCutSize, maxStripeWidth.
    • minEdgeDistance: on device, material or stock.
    • Material: maximum reusable waste size.
    • Optional pieces.
    • Stock order: new "all permutations" mode.
    • stripCutting: takes "none", "byLength" or "byWidth".

    New output

    • Top level: applicationVersion, optimizationDate (UTC), optimizationTimeMs.
    • statistics.2d (total and per cutting): technologicalWasteField, edgingWasteField, kerfWasteField.
    • cuttings[]: income and score (Enterprise and Development licences).
    • cuttings[].rest[]: defects of reusable remnants, plus holes (always empty until an algorithm supports holes).

    WebSocket

    • customData: any JSON sent with cmdAddJob is echoed in every response and notification for that job. It is resent with each progress update, so keep it small.
    • Slow clients: a slow client no longer stalls other clients or the running job.
    • Send timeout: a client that stops reading for 30 s is disconnected.

    Licensing

    • Enterprise: the piece and stock limits are removed.

    Fixes and improvements

    • 1D cutting: the linear cutting algorithm gives better results.
    • 1D: kerf and edging waste are calculated for slanted cuts; larger pieces are placed first.
    • Waste: no longer overlaps cuts or pieces.
    • Transformations: allowed-transformation restrictions are respected in all cases.
    • Layouts: single-piece layouts are no longer inefficient; empty layouts are no longer returned.
    • Cost optimization: now accounts for stock priority.
    • Search: better results with many pieces or sheets; smoother progress; faster with large stock lists and for 1D with the original algorithm.
    • Crashes fixed: custom shapes on a Professional licence, order groups.
    • Memory: fixed a memory leak.
  • TonCut 8 - 8.5.6.15935
    10/30/26 9:16:50 PM

We are pleased to inform you about the new TonCut 8 version. The new version includes the following changes:

    New features

    • Defects on stock sheets – mark damaged areas in the Defects group in the stock dialog. TonCut will avoid placing pieces in these areas. Available in Basic, Professional and Ultimate.
    • Layout orientation – the new Rotation / Mirror tab in Options → Devices lets you set the layout orientation for a cutting device with its driver set to Other. Rotate in 90° steps or mirror the layout. The tab shows a sample layout so you can check the result. The same orientation applies in the main preview, on printouts (including cuts, dimensions and miter-cut pieces), and in DXF, PLT and HPGL exports.
    • Zoom and pan in the preview – use the zoom buttons or mouse wheel to zoom in and out around the cursor. Shift + wheel pans horizontally; Ctrl + wheel pans vertically.
    • Piece and edge band colors – enable Display pieces and veneers in different colors in Options, then choose a color for each piece or edge band. Colors appear in previews, printouts and labels (new Print piece color option). Available in Basic, Professional and Ultimate.
    • ZPL labels – the new ZPL label layout gives you full freedom over label layout and appearance. You can design labels using, for example, free label-design software from the maker of Zebra printers. TonCut renders ZPL itself, so labels can be printed on any printer. Includes separate layouts for pieces and usable waste, a Barcode / QR code value template, a label preview, and a help tab listing the available placeholders. Available only in Professional and Ultimate.
    • Stack labels – new Print batch labels for stacks and Print single labels for stacks options. Available only in Professional and Ultimate.
    • Duplicate piece / Duplicate stock – press Ctrl+D to open the edit dialog with a copy of the selected row.
    • PaletteCAD import – a new profile for importing pieces from text files. Import, including from PaletteCAD, is available only in Professional and Ultimate.

    Optimization

TonCut automatically chooses an optimization method for each stock sheet based on your settings.

    • Strip cutting – significantly improved in 8.5. Enabling Strip cutting (e.g. panel saws) now selects a new optimization method designed for strip cutting. It avoids placing pieces in areas marked as Defects, follows the new Maximum strip width device setting, and supports the Artificial intelligence option. Available in Basic, Professional and Ultimate.
    • Defects and cut spacing – a new optimization method for 2D sheets handles marked Defects and the device's Minimum distance between two parallel cuts setting. TonCut uses this method when either restriction applies, so it avoids defects even when strip cutting is disabled.
    • Improved stock selection – TonCut now makes better use of the available sheets or profiles when choosing stock for a layout.
    • Miter cuts (1D) – improved optimization with Making miter cuts enabled. TonCut now calculates material consumption for angled cuts more accurately, including the cutting thickness (kerf).
    • Redesigned optimization limits – set separate limits on the number of combinations and the time allowed for a single layout, a single variant, and an entire optimization profile (Options → Optimization profiles → Limits).

    Improvements

    • Grouped cutting layouts – identical cutting layouts are now grouped automatically, with an xN multiplier showing their quantity in previews and printouts. This replaces the Group identical cuttings print option.
    • Template search – added a Filter templates... field to the Add pieces from template dialog.
    • Smoother print preview – pages render in the background, and navigating between them is smoother. Switching between the main view and the print preview no longer leaves parts of the screen undrawn.
    • Improved the display quality of previews.
    • Made spacing and resizing behavior consistent across all dialogs.

    Bug fixes

    • Fixed an issue that sometimes produced an empty optimization result.
    • Importing from KD Max V6.1 no longer swaps width and length.
    • Pieces now keep the correct orientation when the material’s grain or surface pattern direction is specified.
    • List column widths and the scroll position in the project list no longer reset unexpectedly.
  • TonCut Engine - 2.1.42.2348
